I saw a movie in 3d for the first time ever today. it was toy story 3. anyone who knows me knows that i don't like pixar. i just don't like the way it looks and i don't really find it amusing. i'm sorry. i know that makes me a baby killer.

everytime i watch a pixar movie i leave thinking "meh." and 3d didn't really change that. maybe i need to see something else in 3d to say wowza. maybe...but i like what corey says:

the movie wasn't nearly as interesting as the adventure of a day gary and i had. we went on an expidition trying to find thrifty's rental cars so they could photo copy my passport before i send it away in my visa application. it was on and off raining and the path was the rapey-est path i have ever walked. then we get there and the guy can't get the copy machine to work so he just tells us to bring in proof of address or something. then i decided i wanted to walk through the park back and we got caught in heavy rain and also lost. then on the way home we had a bus driver with road rage who yelled at pedestrians and beeped for no apparent reason.

i think that as an artist you should have a two or three sentence summary of what your work's about. so you can answer questions like, "what's the point?" quickly and efficiently. don't talk to the ass holes any longer than you have to. not everyone who wants to know is an ass hole, but a small percentage of them are and you just need to be prepared. at my masters show this old drunk (almost staggering) guy came up to me and asked me what my work was about. i said "it's a comment on the stylized superficiality of these types of shows and on our television obsessed society by extension." he stared at me for a moment and then said, "yes, but what's the POINT? i don't watch tv. i don't know what you're talking about." i replied, "well i think that whether or not you watch tv is irrelevant. you can recognize these paintings as images that were sourced from television. you can see around you the obsession society has with tv."

he said "but i don't watch tv."

"well then i guess you are super extraordinary. congratulations. well done on being that guy." i said and left.

i am just saying that artists should have one or two sentences so that when this drunk old guy with a wiry beard and a green fleece walks up and wants to know the point you can tell him and he can not listen.

does anyone actually care what the artist says their works about? don't we just decide for ourselves anyway?

when i was in sixth grade (in foods class or something) the teacher showed us the proper way to cut bread. rather than trying to saw a slice off and smushing the bread you use a serrated knife and cut it with a sort of rocking motion. oh baby. anyways.

i saw my mom cutting it the wrong way and showed her what i learned at school. she was very impressed. so impressed that TO THIS DAY she always asks me to cut the bread because "i do it so well." ridiculous.

SO.

i was microwaving this chocolate pudding (translation: chocolate lava cake) and gary looked at me strange and asked if i had read the directions. he then showed me how to properly microwave the dessert. TO THIS DAY i always insist that gary makes these things for me because "he does it gourmet."

I am going to try and blog more because i have a lot more time now that i graduated and am a master without a job.

-there are no teaching jobs and that is scary. someone told me it would be hard. maybe i should have listened.

-i wrote my first cover letter two days ago. i think i did a pretty good job. if nothing else it will stand out because i don't really know what i am doing.

-radiolab is great. it is my most favorite radio show.

-i am knitting a scarf with pockets. it is half beige and half yellow. i think it will be good.

-i move at the end of the month. not sure where, but i have options and none of them are homeless.

- i may start selling clothes again on etsy because i have more unworn clothes than i have job experience. I have a lot of really great dresses that i don't really want to let go of but would for the right kind of price. i don't know how well selling will work in my current location. well, i will never know until i try. it's not like i have much else to do on these rainy scottish days.

- i will probably end up being a nanny again until i find a real job.

-student loans are SO depressing. in the uk you don't have to pay back your student loans until you are making something like 15 grand. i want that.

-my parents visited and it was really great. it was stressful at the time but i really miss them now that they are gone. i will post pictures. i know i have promised things like this before and never delivered, and perhaps i will fail again. but hey, i don't think anyone but sam and maybe stacy or my mom are actually reading this so i don't think i will disappoint too many people.

-look, i know i'm not a great writer. don't you think i know that

-at the master show i sold one of my prints. which is amazing because it is my first actual sale ever ever ever. i guess i am a real professional now. i wish i could have sold the big paintings because i will probably just have to chuck them. they are so big and i can't really take them with me. which is sad. but i am glad that i was able to make them even if i am not able to keep them.

- i would like to make this blog about art but it will probably just be about funny cat pictures and stupid youtube videos.

i got my hair did. i am trying to go towards my natural color and grow out my bangs so that i only have to get my hair did like once a year. that is the general direction i want my hair to go. i don't really like going to the salon. it's time consuming, expensive, and awkward. especially when you are going somewhere new in a different country.

let's get the obligatory, slightly weird looking photo booth picture out of the way:

i really like it!

however, I HAD THE WORST STYLIST OF ALL TIME SHE MESSED UP MY COLOR AND WAS SO RUDE TO ME. she had the personality of a stale piece of bread.

my complaints:

-she was clearly in a hurry and did not talk to me AT ALL except to ask "is your hair usually dry?" "no."

-she was pulling really hard on my hair and hurting me. i decided i wasn't going to pay 80 pounds to get my hair yanked so i tried to summon meryl streep's character in the devil wears prada and said, "you know, that is attached to my head..." to which she said nothing. but she was a little gentler.

-she set a timer and told one of the assistants to wash my hair out in 20 minutes. she did not check it before it was washed out. my color was patchy and weird with strange blonde and red bits.

-she blow dried my hair and told me she would not have time to give me a hair cut because my color took longer than she thought and she had other appointments. then she tried to blame it on me for not telling them i had such long hair when i called and made the appointment. BUT i made the appointment in person and explained exactly what i wanted done when i booked the appointment. i told her that i was not going to reschedule because i made the 30 minute bus trip to st andrews and took the day off of school for this appointment and that it was rude and unprofessional of her to over book and try to hurry me out. she got the manager.

the manager, the person who re-did my color, and the lady who cut my hair did a really good job. they were really nice too.

so.

if you happen to be in the st andrews area and you want to invest in a hair cut, i would recommend sophie butler hairdressing but DON'T get an appointment with jen. she's horrible.

- i got a white noise machine that works quite nicely and foresee myself having a normal sleep cycle soon.

- i am now so smart that i watch grey's anatomy with the sound off. i collect stills. i have over 400 images. hooray.

- i eat prunes now because they taste good and make you shit like a dream even when you are stressed about things like dissertations or assessments. but i still lie to the grocery store clerk and tell him that i am obviously buying them for my scottish grandparents. clearly. because i am a young lady and young ladies don't eat prunes. but don't worry, i tell him, the wine's for me.

- soon i will start looking at teaching jobs for september.

- i miss sign language.

- gary is almost done with his degree and will soon be moving in with me. very exciting. he has agreed to be my clean hands for the months of june and august as i am going to start doing very large screenprints and will need a set of clean hands to lift them off the table and on to the drying rack. it's a two person job, or so i am told.

- i am going to sort through my crap and get rid of everything i don't need right after assessment. too much clutter.

- my body and unconscious mind want to have a baby. it's a weird internal conflict that i can't stop having dreams about. i dream about the kids i used to babysit at least once a week and miss them like crazy. i am trying to tell myself i will never see them again and that it's ok that way, but the dreams are making it a hard idea for me to wrap my head around.

- i eat more vegetables than ever.

- i am more confident in my imagery than ever before... in spite of recent questions concerning authorship. i mean it's just dumb really, in this day and age. what artist is really the author of the images they represent in a digital age, an age of appropriation? I MEAN REALLY. even if a painter does a painting of, say, an urban landscape, ::cough::cough::, said painter did not actually make the buildings or land or world. we are all just observers anyway i'm rambling hammana shammana ba na na na na na na na na.

i visited end of feb. beginning of march.

it was great!

I got to see corey who is my favorite thing.

i made the color palette for his film and did the wardrobe and stuff like that.

Has anyone else ever seen a flying squirrel? cause omg. amazing. we went on a night safari which was expensive and pretty lame except for some drunk fire dancers, mouse deer, bats, a silly looking alligator, and flying squirrels.

I attended an in person interview with Kevin Spacey and got a really good quote for my dissertation. plus he let me pinch his cheeks; let me tell you they are the best cheeks in hollywood. i ate a lot of delicious and cheap food. and some that was not so cheap.

it was way hot way humid.

i got a sweet hat that looks like a ram.

i felt fat, tall, and pale.

before i left i made corey what was supposed to be a "mesh tank top". basically i wanted to knit him something as i just learned how, but since it is so hot in singapore i couldn't just make him my usual scarf.

i seriously underestimated how much it would stretch out and so it turned out to be a man dress.

also corey inspired me to cut my leggings in a zig zag like the flinstones. sometimes corey is just so right.

for my very first teaching activity i've put a tutorial sign up sheet with a two sentence biography on the 3rd year (juniors) notice board.

i am very excited about this because:

1) this boy walks into the studios asking for erin tracy and then proceeds to ask me if i want him to prepare anything for the tutorial. then he asks me about my work.

2) immediately after this i ran up to the notice board and found that two of the six 20 minute tutorial had been signed up for! i have two students!

3) when i checked my email i got one from a girl who was requesting to meet with me the first week of march! and the best part....she called me "miss tracy" hahahahaha! absolutely thrilling and hilarious. it's erin...miss tracy if you're nasty.

this post is my november and december.

this is my little scottish thanksgiving. mashed potatoes, green beans, fillet steaks, and apple pie. it was delicious!
kelsey made this nice little center piece. the candles are mine and the holly was something we found on the ground when we were supposed to be running but decided to walk around the graves instead because we were tired that day.

on a lovely christmas-y celebration night my art school friends janey and sebastion went with kelsey and me in search of late night drunk food. janey has the most amazing laugh that makes any story a great story.

kelsey has left and is now nannying in turkey! how cool is that!?! i will miss her and our stripes. my life will be about 90% less interesting since i will have no one to encourage me to leave the house at night.

this is what has been going on in my studio at the moment. i am preparing to do multifigure drawings of the swimmers i usually draw. they are going to be elaborate and grand but i haven't got it all orchestrated just yet. the majority of my work isn't in the studio; it is in the print workshop. last semester i learned how to screen print and i have made several doctor prints. they are so wonderfully flat and linear. i really think the process lends itself to the concept.

i've hardly done any clothes posts of the posts i have done so here is something i wore before christmas. the skirt has this deep green paisley pattern. and of course it's from RETHREADS. seriously the best store in milwaukee. they have by far the best vintage in the city and they aren't as expensive as most stores. plus you can get new stuff there too! look for them on facebook. i think they might start an etsy store soon which is so exciting!

yes. kelsey was a hot shit popular in high school cheerleader.

kelsey is a great flat mate BECAUSE:
-she shows me the best place to put the dish towel (which is on the handle of the oven)
-she lets me eat her apples and bananas (which sounds really dirty if you say it right)
-she shows me how to use my sink for maximum efficiency
-she tells me tricks about brushing my hair and how to make your hair less greasy/flat(switch your part)
-she tells me when i am spending a ridiculous amount of money so that i can stand up to sales people (or atleast she will from now on, after i unknowingly bought hair product for 20 pounds!)

while thrifting last hear i happened to come across an authentic WWII navy uniform that FITS ME. it has the most amazing details and still has the tags attached with the previous owner's name! the buttons on the front are great and it has a corset style tie up the back of the pants.

gary went as one of his old room mates and i glued hair to his face and brushed his wig because i am a GREAT girlfriend

kelsey and i went to sunderland for halloween but FIRST we went to newcastle. and this is my favorite picture:

someone who didn't know us would think we were best friends traveling abroad together because there are so many pictures of us.

my friend sam met us; he was our tour guide. he is very tall.

i force danced with him on the street.

then when we went to sunderland, we found it had a great walrus statue.

overall it was a great weekend trip. we went to the baltic and saw the damien hirst pharmacy exhibition, which was a bit lame, but i did some research at the baltic library. they have some really great books about contemporary artists.

this is kelsey. she is going to be staying with me sort of for an undetermined amount of time. and she's REALLY excited about it. her mom is from the uk so she has dual citizenship and can stay as long as she likes.

yesterday we took a road trip with my new friends steven and james to st andrews:

steven gave me horns in this picture and told me about an artist that released a book of pictures where his wife had things coming out of her head. like hundreds of pictures. i thought it sounded romantic.

we talked about how i like to add "dead" to describing words to emphasize the point. in this picture i'm dead excited.

while i was there i just had to take pictures of st andrews golf course for my dad who really has a one track golf/callaway mind.

gary and i walked up the biggest hill in dundee. it's got a monument on top that kind of looks like a nipple but it's really really pretty on top. someone here told me that you can see all the way to edinburgh on a clear day. that's amazing!

i came here with 4 pairs of sunglasses and now all i have are these:

my least favorite pair. that's what i get for being a dirty bird and not putting things back where they belong. i broke my glasses too! but that was because gary and i were dancing in the kitchen and he went to dip me, i threw my head back and my glasses slid off, i lost my balance, fell over, and stepped on them. i almost cried. but i'm over it now. out with the old and in with the new! as soon as i get my loan i will get some really cool european glasses.

here is the hill that i walk up. i don't think it looks so bad in the picture but it is going to get my butt in shape for real.

things are moving really slowly in my attempt to get internet. i am told that i will have it in a week.

these are the very first pictures i have taken in dundee. they are great first pictures.

overall it's very pretty here even though it sometimes rain. ok, it rains a lot.

but it's colder here so i can wear my most favorite thing: SWEATER DRESSES!!
i got this one from a-hem in a trade. it fits me very well and is not too itchy. the boots are from salvation army. once a guy told me they reminded him of space trooper boots from star wars. whatever dude. and the bee pin is from jen! it was a great gift because i was going to buy it from rethreads but then it was gone and i thought it had been stolen. i was pretty bummed and jen just played along. but then right before i left she gave it to me as a present and i was completely shocked and happy!

the pleated skirt ended up being very bad on a windy day. my skirt flew up 4 times that day. good thing i was wearing leggings but i definitely saw a taxi driver laughing at me.

i recently got a new purse and i am really psyched about it. i found it at st vincent de paul for 2 dollars. i am not a purse collector; i usually just have one purse for all occasions. the best thing about it is that it is small so it is way lighter than my previous purse/suitcase and much better for my neck and shoulders.

i am working really hard on a massive august preview. i have photographed 20+ items and i still have a bunch to go. stay tuned. i should have it posted by the end of the day today.

yesterday i wore some oldies but goodies.

during the summer of 2006 it was my personal quest to find the perfect pair of red shorts ever since i saw my friend chloe wearing a pair she had thrifted. i found these that summer and i think they are so great! i also love this cardigan and have had it for a long long time but the heart shaped buttons are starting to fall off (two already).
the weather is very warm today and i am so pleased to wear those shorts for the first time this year!

unfortunately my vacation from etsy must be extended because i woke up this morning with a terrible head ache that lasted all day. i was completely useless!
so i don't have any pictures of clothes. instead i thought i would share what keeps me warm on cold lonely nights while gary is away.

i do have one problem with this though. where did the interpreter go?!?! she should have stayed; it's garbage that she was only there for the slow part.

i finally got new jeans! i am a one pair of jeans kind of girl and the levi's i had before got holes in the thighs after almost 2 years of faithful service. it was a process since i tried on about 6 different pairs in as many sizes since i didn't really know what my jean size was anymore.

i feel like this outfit is something similar to what my mom would have worn when she was my age. she would have probably worn some 70's jeans though. my mother is a sweet lady who grew up on a farm in a town called fremont; population 500.

and i am also wearing the first pair of boots i ever bought. it's obvious that wisconsin winters have done a number on these but i think it makes them more unique and beautiful. the squiggly salt stain at the toe is rustic and splendid. i will never leave them.

these are my most very favorite socks. i got them (along with two other unique pairs) at an antique store that was closing for 25 cents. they are mended all over and i think it's beautiful. i want to learn how to properly darn socks so that all of my socks will one day look like this.

and i just have to complain a little bit. i bought these lame black leggings from american apparel for 45 dollars and they almost immediately started peeling. it's so gross! it's not that they are too small, if anything i should have bought a size down because now they are all stretched out and weird on me. i am completely disgusted and have stopped shopping at aa since. it's been about 6 months and i don't see myself crawling back any time soon. i tried to post a review (which was more tastefully worded) on their site but they took it down. so here is photographic proof that this garment SUCKS!
